About the Role
Hinterland Aviation is looking to strengthen its Safety team with the appointment of an Aviation Safety Officer. Applications are welcome from candidates across a range of experience levels, including those looking to start a career in aviation safety, applicants with some relevant experience, and experienced aviation safety professionals. The successful applicant's responsibilities, remuneration and position classification will reflect their experience, capability and qualifications, with training, mentoring and career development provided for the right entry-level candidate. Reporting to the Safety Manager, the role supports the delivery and continuous improvement of Hinterland Aviation's Safety Management System (SMS) across Cairns, Townsville and Horn Island operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Reporting & Investigations: process and coordinate internal safety reports, assist with safety investigations and occurrence reviews, assign, monitor and follow up corrective actions, escalate significant safety issues, and maintain hazard registers and monitor risk controls.
- Safety Management System: support Management of Change (MOC) processes, assist with operational risk assessments, conduct operational safety inspections, support emergency response planning and exercises, and assist with operational security oversight and reporting.
- Safety Promotion: develop and promote safety awareness initiatives, assist with safety communications and training materials, and promote a positive reporting culture throughout the organisation.
- Administration & Compliance: maintain accurate safety records and documentation, assist with regulatory compliance activities, support audits and safety assurance activities, and utilise safety reporting databases and associated software systems.
Essential Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain an ASIC.
- Holding a current Australian driver's licence.
- Meeting aviation security requirements, including drug and alcohol testing.
Desirable
- Aviation experience.
- Experience in safety, compliance, quality or operational administration.
- Safety Management System (SMS) training or qualifications (or willingness to undertake training).
- Familiarity with CASA regulations (or willingness to learn).
