Established in 1984 as a charter operator mainly servicing the mining industry, Hinterland Aviations has since expanded to operate general air charter all around the country including to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

Hinterland Aviation has a diverse range of clientele, providing air services to Bloomfield Lodge, as well as resorts at both Lizard Island and former Dunk Island Resort. Hinterland Aviation operates regular charters for the live-aboard dive vessel Spirit of Freedom, as well as Mike Ball Dive Expeditions, and services the fly-in, fly-out requirements for Kagara Zinc and Ergon Energy’s Queensland state air charter needs. Additionally Hinterland Aviation has Aero Medical capability and has successfully completed a number of domestic and international medivac missions.

Hinterland Aviation also services the Cooktown community by operating a direct Regular Public Transport (RPT) service between Cairns and Cooktown.
