About the Role

The Manager Business and Aviation is responsible for leading the Property and Aviation Section and overseeing a diverse portfolio of commercial, property and aviation-related functions on behalf of Council. This role provides strategic leadership for the management and ongoing development of the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport, Council's property portfolio, commercial and community buildings, capital projects, land development initiatives, procurement, contracts, governance, and land management activities.

The position delivers expert advice to Council, drives commercial growth opportunities, and ensures the Airport's continued profitability, economic sustainability and contribution to the region. Through effective leadership, stakeholder engagement and sound business management, the Manager Business and Aviation supports the achievement of Council's strategic objectives while maximising the value and performance of Council-owned assets.

Essential Requirements

  • Behaviour that positively demonstrates Council's values of: creative, accessible, respect, energetic and safe
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline such as Business, Engineering, Law, Aviation or Economics
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage a multi-disciplinary professional team and multiple complex projects and programs in a politically sensitive environment
  • Proven knowledge in financial analysis, including preparation and review of budgets relevant to the section
  • Advanced negotiation and dispute resolution skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide strategic advice on commercial activities
  • Demonstrated track record of sustained high level employee engagement and driving a culture of excellence in customer service and continual improvement
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating, implementing and managing complex legal and commercial agreements in either the public or private sector
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to prepare complex reports and submissions and deliver presentations
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of equal employment opportunity, risk management principles, legislative compliance, data governance and work health and safety, and an ability to apply them to work practices

  • Annual salary range of $147,800 to $169,600 (plus 12% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications
