About the Role
AIR6500 is the RAAF's $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems, creating a fully networked 'system of systems' that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments. The AIR6500 program is expanding, creating multiple opportunities for Systems Engineers to join a flagship Defence capability shaping Australia's integrated air and missile defence future. As part of several Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), you will contribute to the delivery of complex, system-of-systems capability across domains including communications, operational continuity and support systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage system and sub-system requirements within an MBSE environment
- Support system architecture, interface definition and integration activities
- Contribute to system verification and validation planning and execution
- Produce key engineering artefacts including requirements, design documents and trade studies
- Engage with internal teams, SMEs and external partners to support program delivery
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices and processes
Essential Requirements
- Experience across the systems engineering lifecycle (requirements, design, integration and/or verification)
- Exposure to Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and tools (e.g. MagicDraw, Cameo, Rhapsody or similar)
- Experience working on complex systems, ideally within Defence or high-technology environments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
- Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience
- NV1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information
Desirable
- Experience working within AIR6500 or similar large Defence programs
- Exposure to system-of-systems integration and digital engineering environments
- Knowledge of Defence capability domains (C2, ISR, communications, etc.)
