The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is an independent Australian statutory authority responsible for the safety regulation of civil air operations in Australia and Australian aircraft overseas.

The Opportunity

The Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Tester/Assistant Investigator sits within the Investigations Section of the Legal Services Branch, responsible for CASA's investigative activities under the Civil Aviation Act 1988, fraud control and AOD testing of the civil aviation industry. Melbourne is the preferred location; this is a safety sensitive position with shift work and travel required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct drug and alcohol tests under CASR subpart 99.C
  • Prepare Alcohol & Other Drug briefs of evidence and administrative reports
  • Liaise with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and other legal representatives
  • Represent the Authority in court proceedings and give evidence as required
  • Investigate, or assist in investigating, alleged breaches of aviation and related legislation

Essential Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in AOD testing and investigations in a regulatory environment
  • Highly developed communication and negotiation skills
  • Australian citizen; ability to hold a red ASIC card
  • Certificate IV (or equivalent) in Government Investigations, or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Current driver's licence; general physical fitness
