About the role:

The Victoria Police Air Wing provides a 24-hour, seven day a week, aerial support capability for police operations including tactical deployments, high risk search and rescue, aerial observations (including of high risk/high harm offending), rapid deployments and public reassurance.

The Victoria Police Air Wing has a rotary wing (three helicopters) and a fixed wing capability and is authorised by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to perform Aerial Work Operations under Part 138 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998.

The Head of Aircraft Airworthiness and Maintenance Control (HAAMC) is a key role, requiring technical knowledge, technical experience and CASA approval. The HAAMC is also the Contract Manager responsible for the supply and maintenance of Victoria Police Air Wing aircraft.

The successful applicant will be required to engage with contractors, conduct audits, manage projects, manage budgets and report to the Police Air Wing Unit Commander and Chief Pilot.

Your duties will include:

Providing oversight and monitoring:

  • Aircraft utilisation and the scheduling of maintenance.

  • Aircraft Maintenance program compliance and review of effectiveness.

  • Minimum Equipment List compliance and review.

  • Deferred maintenance actions.

  • Defect rectification and unscheduled maintenance.

  • Investigation and reporting of defects.

  • Engine trend monitoring.

  • Review of Airworthiness Directives, Alert Service Bulletins, Engineering Orders and other technical instructions for applicability and compliance.

  • Liaison with CASA.

  • Review, update, manage and compliance with the Air Wing Maintenance Control Manual.

  • Conduct of audits in accordance with Audit plan.

Provide advice to the Police Air Wing Unit Commander and Chief Pilot.

Contribute to the operational effectiveness of the Police Air Wing.

Conduct planned and unplanned meetings with internal and external stakeholders including Contractors and Maintenance Controllers.

Manage and/or contribute to projects.

Manage and report on all financial aspects of Aircraft Support contracts.

Compile reports relevant to contracts, finance, audits, equipment, logistics and issues relating to aircraft capability/availability.  

About You:

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience: 

  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of the Civil Aviation Act, Civil Aviation Regulations, Civil Aviation Safety Regulations and Civil Aviation Orders in relation to Airworthiness and Maintenance Control.

  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge to perform the role of HAAMC for Victoria Police with experience relevant to similar aircraft in operation.

  • Meet the necessary requirements to be approved by CASA as the organisation's HAAMC.

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in the management of large complex contracts, preferably within a government context.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Further Information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.

  • This position is primarily located at the Victoria Police Air Wing facility, 12 Global Avenue, Essendon Fields.

  • This position may require shift work as indicated in the Position Description (as attached to the advertisement).

  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.

  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
