Skippers Aviation

About

Skippers Aviation commenced operation in 1990, operating a fleet of three Cessna Conquest turbo prop aircraft and one Cessna 402C from the Flight Centre facility at the Perth domestic airport.

Over the years, Skippers have focused primarily on its core business of providing outstanding service and flexibility to the resource industry within Australia as well as Regulated Passenger Transport destinations; our key advantage is being equipped with modern aircraft especially suited to the rough airstrips and harsh conditions often found in remote locations.

With this consistent and considerable growth, Skippers is the only Perth General Aviation Company which has addressed the issue of aging aircraft. In 1995, at a considerable price premium, we acquired a fleet of 3 brand new Metro23 turbo prop aircraft. This was part of Skippers’ commitment to offering leading technology to our passengers’ for optimal comfort and peace of mind.

More new Metro 23s followed over the next 3 years with the fleet then totaling 5.

In 1997/98, Skippers completed construction on their state of the art passenger terminal, engineering facility and operations centre at Perth Airport. During this time two De Havilland Dash-8 turbo prop aircraft were added to the fleet. Seating 36 passengers each, these new aircraft substantially increased Skippers’ capacity and added to the flexibility of an already versatile fleet.

Also in that year, Skippers Aviation established a base in Broome, Western Australia in conjunction with an established mining company, WA Transport and Ansett Australia. An office complex, hangar and maintenance facility were built and Skippers still operate aircraft from this base on contract and ad-hoc charter basis.

In 1999, our Air Operators Certificate was upgraded to allow for the provision of scheduled RPT (Regular Passenger Transport) services to the general public. Following the collapse of Ansett in 2001 and operating within a highly regulated passenger market, Skippers were able to take up routes which would otherwise have been abandoned and continue to connect remote Western Australian communities with Perth city. Skippers continues to operate quality air services to many of these destinations today, which include flights and services to Mt Magnet, Meekatharra, Leonora, Laverton and Wiluna.

In 2008, the addition of more DeHavilland Dash 8-300, 50 passenger aircraft scaled our current fleet to 24 aircraft, in 2011 two DeHavilland Dash-8 300, 52 passenger aircraft were added to the fleet which now comprising 26 aircraft then in 2013 the company acquired two F100 – 108 seat aircraft which now gives the company a total capacity of 983 seats. Skippers have the capabilities and resources to provide a quality service at levels of safety and comfort comparable with other major airlines.

Black Diamond Aviation

It started with a little boy folding paper planes. His spirit and the love for aviation allowed a dream to evolve, and today, we offer you Black Diamond Aviation! Founded by Matthew and Mache Collins - a husband and wife team - Black Diamond Aviation is privately owned aircraft charter company, operating out of Gove Airport in East Arnhemland. We commenced operations in 2011 with a fleet of just one aircraft. However, it was Matthew's vision of providing an air service with an absolute and unambiguous commitment to remote settlements and communities within Arnhemland, and the corporate sectors that support and service them, that saw Black Diamond Aviation grow dramatically over the past few of years. From humble beginnings, Black Diamond Aviation is now an established operator.

Platinum Aircraft Charter

Platinum Aircraft Charter (previously Lucas Air Transport) is a premium Adelaide air charter operator that delivers decades of safe, reliable air transportation. This unique aircraft charter company started flying in 2008 after recognising the need for a cost-effective and efficient travel service. It started to fly earthmoving employees to and from remote mining sites, and gradually grew its clientele, staff and fleet of charter aircraft. Lucas Air was the first ever South Australian flight operator to receive Approved Single Engine Propellor Turbine Aircraft (ASEPTA) status. This allowed flying in all weather conditions, day and night, for paying passenger charter. Without this approval, aircraft can only fly in clear skies during the daytime. The owners of the business, Steve and Bonnie Cesco, are both experienced pilots with many years of experience operating charter flights. Bonnie Cesco is the current Managing Director and Stever Cesco is the Chief Pilot of the company. Platinum Aircraft Charter has vast experience in providing an effective alternative to the challenges and limitations associated with traditional commercial air travel. We are based at Adelaide Airport, a convenient access point for all major centres and the majority of regional and mining centres throughout Australia.

Polar Aviation

POLAR AVIATION (1981 - 2024) Polar Aviation began in 1981 when Clark Butson recognised a clear need in the Pilbara. Remote communities were being left behind - cut off by distance and lacking reliable transport options. Clark believed they deserved better: dependable access to essential services, safe travel, and the same opportunities as those in major cities. From its earliest flights, Polar was more than just a charter service. It became a vital connection - moving students, supporting mining operations, delivering freight, and even responding to emergencies. Operating its own turbine aircraft, building hangars in key locations, and investing in in-house training and navigation systems, Polar built a reputation for doing things properly and showing up where others wouldn’t. Key operations during this time: FIFO flights and critical supply runs for the mining industry Student and passenger charter services to remote communities Flight training for both recreational and commercial pilots Search and Rescue operations across Western Australia Aerial tours showcasing the Pilbara’s landscape Maintenance services for turbine and piston aircraft Full compliance with CAR 217 and proprietary navigation development POLAR AVIATION (2025 - Present) Now based on Australia’s East Coast, Polar Aviation continues to grow, but its commitment remains unchanged. The same principles that shaped the business in the Pilbara still guide it today: do things properly, invest in the right people, and operate to the highest standard. With expanded services in aircraft management and aviation consulting, Polar now supports private clients and aviation organisations looking to raise their operational game. And with the addition of international charter capabilities, the business has crossed a significant milestone - offering cross-border travel backed by decades of regional aviation experience. What Polar offers today: Full-service aircraft management for private and commercial clients Consulting for aviation operators, training organisations, and corporates International charter capability across Asia-Pacific and beyond A team defined by precision, discipline, and operational excellence
