The airport traces its history back to 1921, when it supported the vital Perth–Darwin air link, later becoming an important regional hub. Today, the airport welcomes over 400,000 passengers each year and continues to invest in its future through an airport masterplan focused on improvements such as a more spacious terminal, upgraded runways and taxiways, advanced safety and operational technology, and environmentally conscious infrastructure and design.
