Queensland Government Air (QGAir) forms part of the Queensland Police Service (QPS), Aviation Capability Group (ACG), and provides government aviation services specialising in both rotary and fixed-wing operations in support of the QPS and partner agencies across Queensland.

The Role

Take the next step in your aviation leadership career as the Rotary Wing Head of Training and Checking with QGAir. You’ll lead the Training & Checking function, ensuring the safe, efficient and effective delivery of QGAir’s training program, uphold the highest standards of currency and proficiency, conduct training and testing, and support licence and rating issue or renewal in line with QGAir and CASA requirements. This is a full-time 3-year contract position; while currently based in Townsville, applications are also accepted from candidates interested in Brisbane or Cairns, with the final location determined through negotiation.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current Australian Air Transport Pilots Licence (ATPL)
  • Flight Examiner Rating (FER)
  • Flight Instructor Rating (FIR) — Multi Engine or previous military equivalent
  • Low Level Rating and Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) Rating
  • Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating — 5 renewals
  • Minimum 2,500 hours total time; 1,500 hours PIC helicopter; 500 hours Night PIC helicopter; 1,500 hours Multi-Engine PIC helicopter; 1,200 hours turbine helicopter; 100 hours NVIS operations
  • Hold or be eligible to hold an ASIC and a valid Class 1 Aviation Medical
  • Demonstrated and extensive knowledge of CASA regulations
