The Opportunity

The RPAS Instructor (Maintenance/Operator) is primarily responsible for reviewing, updating, delivering, and evaluating RPAS training for Maintenance Technicians and delivering flight training for staff and customers in Australia and overseas. From time to time the RPAS Instructor will also support the Flight Operations Team on domestic and international assignments for up to 4 months at a time.

Key Responsibilities

• Determine daily instructional needs/objectives and adjust content and delivery as necessary
• Review training syllabuses, class rosters, student training records and courseware requirements
• Identify and schedule training resources including facilities, hardware/equipment, and flight time availability
• Manage the Maintenance Training Area, including Controlled Tool Kit (CTK) management, ESD management, quarantine management, and spares management
• Verify that all resources and daily training content are compliant with contractual and regulatory requirements
• Conduct classroom, practical, flight and simulation instruction, and demonstrate maintenance procedures
• Assign student work, administer assessments, perform remedial instruction and complete student records
• Maintain RPAS and conduct pre-flight planning to ensure maintenance and scheduled servicing requirements are met
• Evaluate customer mission requirements and execute missions, delivering full motion video and payload data
• Perform RPAS and ground support equipment testing, troubleshooting and maintenance
• Conduct on-site formal/informal technical training and document maintenance actions

Essential Requirements

• Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Avionics/Technical/Structures)
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or higher, with experience as an instructor
• Knowledge of RPAS including air vehicle, ground segments and supportability
• Knowledge of maintenance processes, tools, troubleshooting techniques and standards
• Information technology skills including application, hardware and networking
• Eligibility for an Australian Defence Security Clearance
• Valid Australian Open (Manual) Driver Licence
• Ability to operate in remote national and international locations for up to 4 months at a time
• Australian citizenship, to meet Defence security requirements

Desirable

• Diploma in Training Design and Development and/or experience as an Instructional Designer
• ScanEagle 2 or Integrator qualification
• Private Pilot Licence (PPL) or Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with a CASA Instrument Rating Examination (IREX) or Instrument Rating, to perform RPAS Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations
