We are a well-established Engineering Company located in Brisbane that specialises in precision CNC machining, mechanical sub assembly & Aerostructure manufacturing. We work nearly exclusively with Digital Product, using modern manufacturing systems, processes, and CAD models to manufacture and inspect parts. We work with partners like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Parker Aerospace, and many others to manufacture parts for the F-35 Lightning II, MQ-28 Ghost Bat, and many other programs.
About the Role
Ferra Engineering is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Project Engineer, you will play a crucial role in leading, managing, and ensuring the successful execution of all engineering facets of the program. The Project Engineer II independently manages defined scopes of work and technical ownership throughout the project lifecycle, serving as a crucial bridge between various departments, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure engineering solutions satisfy contractual and customer requirements along with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the assigned customer program and work scope, using sound judgement to develop engineering solutions that meet regulatory, contractual and manufacturing requirements.
- Interpret customer technical requirements and translate to practical solutions for the business. Active engagement in the Contract Review and Production Readiness process.
- Assist in the definition of manufacturing methodology along with support of quoting activities.
- Lead New Product Introduction, Work Transfer and Engineering Change activities within the program, ensuring work completed and documentation is to required standards.
- Develop project plans related to the Engineering activities of a program; defining milestones, risks and mitigations and reporting progress.
- Review and assess Engineering Changes, evaluating the cost-benefit prior to implementation.
- Support NCR/RCCA activities and Customer Concession requests, including drawing and inspection report interpretation.
- Be the program technical focal and work closely with other departments as well as external suppliers and customers.
- Identifying and implementing improvement initiatives, collaborating with the broader team across programs.
- Mentor junior members of the team and champion an environment of learning and development.
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles and judgement to deliver technical outcomes that satisfy customer, operational, quality and business requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to successfully work across departments within the business, suppliers and end customer.
- Adaptable and comfortable working in a matrix style organisation, managing competing priorities and influencing outcomes without direct authority.
- Proven capability to independently manage and deliver assigned scopes of work, driving actions to completion while managing technical, schedule and stakeholder risks.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering in an applicable field, e.g. Aerospace, Mechanical, Manufacturing.
- Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools.
- Working knowledge of regulated industry standards, regulations, and certification processes; preference to Aerospace (AS9100).
- Must have the right to work in Australia.
Desirable
- Aerospace and Defence experience.
- Six Sigma Green Belt experience.
- Project management certification or work experience.
