About the Role

The Helicopter Aircrew Training System (HATS) Simulator Technician works as part of a team of technicians, under the direction of a HATS Senior Simulator Technician, to operate and maintain the Synthetic Training Environment (STE) devices — including flight simulators, virtual reality trainers, marshalling virtual reality trainer, desktop trainers and tactical part task trainers — support the Constructive Training Environment (CTE), maintain the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Network, and support the Avionics equipment fitted to the helicopter platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the HATS STE, CTE, ICT and Avionics elements as directed by the HATS Senior Simulator Technicians or HATS Lead Maintenance Technician
  • Ensure the HATS STE, CTE, ICT and Avionics elements are maintained in accordance with manufacturers' guidelines
  • Carry out corrective maintenance and actions as required
  • Maintain tools and test equipment, ensuring equipment is in calibration
  • Maintain records and documentation
  • Act and undertake duties as a Self Certifying Maintainer (SCM) when authorised
  • Utilise spares and carry out repairs to ensure STE devices meet contracted availability requirements
  • Maintain a sound working relationship with the customer and other stakeholders
  • Proactively identify issues and solutions, keeping the HATS Lead Maintenance Technician informed of progress

Essential Requirements

  • Qualifications in Avionics, Electronics, Computer IT or similar fields
  • Experience in a technical workshop or maintenance environment
  • Customer interface experience and sound interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated self starter
  • Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain Baseline security clearance

Desirable

  • Experience with simulation projects, preferably in a Defence context
