About the role
We are seeking a Senior Environmental and Sustainability Advisor to join Sunshine Coast Airport in a full-time capacity, based in Marcoola, Queensland. This position that will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing our environmental and sustainability initiatives. The role will be instrumental in ensuring the airport meets regulatory requirements, reduces its environmental impact and contributes positively to the community and natural environment. You will work collaboratively with operational teams, management and external stakeholders to embed sustainability into all aspects of airport operations.
Key responsibilities
- Developing and implementing comprehensive environmental and sustainability strategies aligned with airport operations and corporate objectives
- Monitoring and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, regulations and best practice standards
- Conducting environmental impact assessments and risk evaluations for airport projects and operational activities
- Managing environmental permits, licences and approvals required for airport operations
- Overseeing waste management, energy efficiency, water conservation and emissions reduction programmes
- Leading stakeholder engagement and communication on environmental and sustainability matters
- Preparing environmental reports, data analysis and performance metrics for senior management and regulatory bodies
- Identifying opportunities for environmental improvements and sustainable practices across the airport
- Collaborating with internal teams to integrate sustainability into capital projects and operational planning
- Staying current with emerging environmental regulations, technologies and industry best practices
What we're looking for
- Tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental management, sustainability, earth sciences, geology or a related discipline
- Proven experience in environmental management, sustainability or a related field, preferably within transport, infrastructure or aviation sectors
- Demonstrable expertise in environmental compliance, regulatory requirements and environmental impact assessment methodologies
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation applicable to Australia, particularly Queensland-based environmental laws and standards
- Experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies and programmes
- Proficiency in environmental data analysis, reporting and the use of relevant software tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Strong project management capabilities and the ability to lead cross-functional teams
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to translate complex environmental issues into practical solutions
- Relevant environmental certifications or memberships (such as Australian Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) are highly desirable
