About the job:
As the Baggage Crew Leader, you will take charge of leading and coordinating the Bag room team to ensure safe, efficient, and seamless service delivery for our customers. You will oversee daily baggage operations, maintain high safety and accuracy standards, and support your team to perform at their best. Working as part of a close-knit team, you will uphold safety, accuracy, and efficiency in every task — helping deliver a smooth and reliable airport operation.
Your work will include:
Service Delivery
Deliver services on behalf of Star Aviation customers, ensuring compliance and safety regulations are always met to the highest standards
Load and unload passenger luggage and air cargo, bulk and/or containers/pallets, onto barrows and/or dollies and the airport belt system
Responsible for courteous, prompt, accurate and careful handling of customer baggage, air freight and company material, onto barrows and/or dollies and the airport belt system
continuous lifting, loading/unloading, sorting and transfer of baggage, freight and company material weighing up to 32kg
Perform Ramp functions including marshalling aircraft in the ramp environment
Receipt and dispatch of aircraft, inclusive of pushback
Placing chocks and cones around aircraft
Operating aircraft passenger doors, hold doors and relevant hatches
Loading aircraft with freight and baggage in full accordance with loading instructions
Providing special handling of baggage, freight, and mail, as required
Collecting, loading, and unloading live animals and dangerous goods on and off aircraft, when necessary
Delivering passenger baggage to the claim area and unloading baggage onto the conveyor system
Lifting, loading/unloading, sorting and transfer of baggage, freight, and company material
Represent both the Airline and Star to the highest-level ensuring customer satisfaction
Report to the on-shift Duty Manager in a timely manner on any issues or activities likely to influence operations or relations with airline customers
Ensure compliance with all Uniform & PPE requirements
People and Shift Management
Manage key personnel ensuring the operations are being delivered in an efficient and safe manner
Always lead by example, ensuring yourself and your team act in accordance with Star Aviation guidelines and appropriate professional standards
Drive a safety culture through your team, ensuring compliance with both the Airline, Airport and Star Aviation requirements
Identify and resolve problems/conflict at ground level
Reporting matters of significance in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders
Standards, Compliance and Safety
Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with relevant policies and procedures
Proactively report any hazards, near misses or events in both Star Aviation as well as relevant client safety management system
Proactively encourage a safe operating environment through all interactions with other personnel
A valid state driver licence
A valid Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) – or ability to obtain one
A valid authority to Drive Airside Card (ADA) – or ability to obtain one
Physically fit and able to perform lifting and bending
Excellent organisation and time management skills
Working in a high-pressure environment and to strict timelines
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and situations
Able to work well in a fast-paced team environment
Capable of Incident Report writing, in plain and clear English
