The Airport Manager - Cargo is responsible for the overall leadership, management and performance of cargo terminal operations. This role ensures safe, compliant and commercially effective delivery of cargo services, including warehouse operations, stakeholder management, financial performance and team leadership.
 

Service Delivery

  • Lead and oversee all cargo terminal operations including import, export and warehouse functions

  • Ensure cargo is handled in accordance with airline, regulatory and customer requirements

  • Drive operational performance to meet safety, service, productivity and financial KPIs

  • Monitor and improve operational processes to enhance efficiency and service delivery

  • Investigate delays, damages and service failures and implement corrective actions

  • Ensure all contractual obligations and service level agreements are met
     

Operational Management 

  • Plan and allocate resources effectively to meet operational demand

  • Oversee terminal capacity, workflow, and equipment utilisation

  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of all cargo handling equipment

  • Manage infrastructure and facilities to meet operational and compliance requirements

  • Support implementation of new systems, processes and continuous improvement initiatives
     

People Management

  • Lead and manage Duty Managers, Supervisors and operational staff

  • Drive performance management, coaching and development across the team

  • Ensure workforce planning, rostering and recruitment meet operational needs

  • Foster a high-performance, safety-focused culture

  • Manage employee relations and resolve workplace issues
     

Safety, Compliance and Risk

  • Ensure full compliance with aviation security, dangerous goods and regulatory requirements

  • Promote and enforce WHS policies and safe work practices

  • Oversee incident investigations, reporting and corrective actions

  • Ensure audit readiness and compliance with internal and external standards
     

Financial and Commercial Management

  • Manage operational budgets, cost control and productivity targets

  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth and service expansion

  • Support contract management and client performance reporting

  • Contribute to business planning, forecasting and cost modelling


Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with airlines, freight forwarders and airport authorities

  • Act as the primary escalation point for major operational and service issues

  • Represent Star Aviation in operational and stakeholder meetings

  • Support business development opportunities within cargo operations
     


  • Extensive experience in cargo, logistics or aviation terminal management

  • Demonstrated success in leading large operational teams

  • Experience managing operational performance and budgets

  • Strong understanding of aviation cargo regulations and standards

  • Certificate III or higher in Aviation (or relevant field preferred)

  • Valid Driver’s Licence, ASIC and ADAA valid Australian Driver’s Licence 

  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) 

  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid Airside Driving Authority (ADA) 

  • Advanced leadership and people management capability

  • Strong commercial and operational acumen

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills

  • High-level problem solving and decision-making ability

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

  • Advanced reporting and computer literacy

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong understanding of the Aviation and Cargo Industry

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
