The Opportunity

An opportunity exists for an experienced and respected aviation leader to join Maroomba Airlines as Head of Flying Operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for the safe, compliant and effective conduct of flying operations and for holding the CASA-approved key personnel position for flying operations under applicable regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Flying Operations will provide leadership across flight crew operational standards, training oversight and day-to-day operational control within the scope of the Company's Air Operator's Certificate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the safe, compliant and effective conduct of Company flying operations
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of the Head of Flying Operations under the Company's approved organisational structure and applicable CASA requirements
  • Ensure flying operations are conducted in accordance with the Civil Aviation Act 1988, CASR Parts 119, 121 and 91, the AOC, exposition and other regulatory requirements
  • Maintain oversight of flight crew qualifications, licences, ratings, endorsements, route qualifications, recency and proficiency requirements
  • Monitor operational standards and oversee the supervision, training, checking and standardisation of flight crew
  • Ensure appropriate systems are maintained for monitoring flight and duty times, fatigue risk controls and related compliance requirements
  • Promote professional standards, operational discipline and consistent adherence to Company procedures
  • Lead, coach and develop flight crew capability, while supporting leadership depth and succession within Flight Operations
  • Build and maintain a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, respect and continuous improvement
  • Work collaboratively with the COO, senior leadership team and other operational departments

Essential Requirements

  • Australian Airline Transport Pilot Licence ATPL(A)
  • Current Australian Class 1 Medical Certificate
  • Instrument Rating IR(A) with 2D and 3D endorsements, with current IFR proficiency appropriate to multi-engine operations
  • Qualifications and experience acceptable to CASA for approval as Head of Flying Operations
  • Extensive airline, charter or air transport operational experience in a complex and safety-critical environment
  • Demonstrated flight operations leadership experience including responsibility for operational standards, regulatory compliance, crew management and training oversight
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian civil aviation regulatory requirements relevant to Part 119 and Part 121 operations
  • Hold and maintain type rating(s) and operational approvals on company aircraft types

Desirable

  • Type rating and recent operational experience on Company aircraft types or similar multi-crew transport category aircraft
  • Experience operating larger turboprop aircraft in airline operations
  • Experience in regional and/or charter airline operations
  • Training and checking qualifications, or ability to obtain and maintain them
  • Experience leading change, capability development or operational improvement initiatives
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills including experience working with regulators and senior operational leaders
