About the Role

As a LifeFlight Jet Air Ambulance Flight Nurse, you will provide expert nursing care to critically ill and injured patients, working alongside Flight Medical Officers on complex aeromedical retrievals across Queensland and international jet operations. You will collaborate with highly skilled Doctors, Paramedics, and Pilots to stabilise, monitor, and safely transport patients in a 24/7 aeromedical environment.

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) opportunity rostered on a 24-hour, 7 days on / 7 days off schedule (168 hours per fortnight). As part of a rotating roster, you will be on-call for seven consecutive days (24 hours per day) within a four-week cycle. Shift changeover occurs at 0600 each Monday.

To support your success, you will participate in a mandatory 4-day clinical induction program at the LifeFlight Training Academy (LTA), commencing Sunday 26 July 2026 to Wednesday 29 July 2026.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessment, stabilisation, and ongoing critical care management in pre-hospital and in-transit settings
  • Collaborate with the Flight Medical Officer and Medical Coordination teams to determine clinical priorities and retrieval strategies
  • Prepare, package, and transport patients safely, ensuring adherence to aeromedical and clinical safety standards
  • Deliver advanced clinical interventions within scope of practice, including independent management during nurse-only retrieval missions
  • Provide structured, accurate clinical handover to receiving healthcare teams, ensuring continuity of care
  • Maintain complete and timely clinical documentation, including mission records and case reporting
  • Ensure readiness, maintenance, and appropriate utilisation of specialised aeromedical equipment
  • Contribute to operational logistics, communication, and risk management during retrieval activities
  • Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and ongoing education initiatives

About You

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in the last 7 years in emergency and/or intensive care nursing at a level 6 hospital
  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Post-graduate qualification in intensive care and/or emergency nursing
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS), PALS and NeoResus certifications
  • Strong clinical judgement, problem-solving skills, and situational awareness
  • Ability to work on-call within a 24/7 roster and respond at short notice, including interstate/international travel
  • Demonstrated physical capability to meet operational and manual handling requirements
  • Current driver's licence and valid passport

Highly Regarded

  • Experience in retrieval or aeromedical medicine environments
  • Trauma or critical care certifications (e.g. TNCC, PHTLS)
  • Previous experience in coordination or leadership roles

Candidates must also be able to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) and meet specific aviation and safety training requirements.
