About the Role
Carbonix is looking for a junior GIS Analyst to support the development of mission-critical mapping products for UAV operations and regulatory submissions. This role sits directly in the flight operations team, building spatial datasets and products that feed flight planning, regulatory applications, risk assessments, and customer deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and quality-check mapping products in QGIS for operational planning, UAV corridors, airspace overlays, and regulatory artefacts.
- Prepare geospatial layers for flight approvals, SORA/SAIL artefacts, operational packs, and customer projects.
- Process and manage spatial data including LiDAR, photogrammetry outputs, DEMs/DTMs, orthoimagery, and asset datasets.
- Support system documentation with clear, concise mapping outputs and technical notes.
- Work closely with engineering, operations, and regulatory staff to ensure spatial accuracy and consistency across all deliverables.
Essential Requirements
- University degree in GIS, geospatial science, geography, surveying, environmental science, or a related field.
- Strong competency in QGIS — layer management, projections, symbology, field calculations, plugins, and workflow efficiency.
- High attention to detail, especially around spatial accuracy, topology, and metadata integrity.
- Confident communicator — capable of producing technically sound written outputs and working effectively across teams.
- Keen interest in UAV technology, aviation environments, and emerging tech.
Desirable
- Basic Python scripting (PyQGIS or general automation).
- Exposure to LiDAR processing, photogrammetry workflows, or drone capture pipelines.
- Familiarity with aviation mapping concepts (airspace, obstacles, flight planning).
