The Opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is seeking an experienced Qualified Flying Instructor (Category A) to join the AH-64 Apache sustainment team in Townsville, North Queensland. This is a rare opportunity to be a part of a foundational team bringing this latest Australian Defence Force (ADF) capability online.

What You'll Get to Do

  • Instructional Delivery: Execute high-quality AH-64E airborne, synthetic, and ground-based instruction to support pilot development
  • Flight Operations: Oversee and conduct AH-64E general flying operations in accordance with established protocols
  • Compliance & Currency: Proactively maintain all flying currency and professional qualifications as mandated by Army Aviation Orders, Instructions and Publications
  • Safety Leadership: Champion a robust safety culture, promoting a secure and effective work environment for all team members
  • Operational Support: Manage associated instructional and administrative tasks to ensure seamless training workflows
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively contribute to the evolution of training methodologies and team performance

Who We're Looking For — Essential

  • Must hold or have held a AUS / UK / US military AH-64E qualification
  • Hold, or in the previous 3 years have held a rotary wing Instructor rating equivalent to ADF Category A QFI along with: at least 2,000 hours total turbine rotary wing flying experience, with at least 1,500 hours 'Pilot in Command'; at least 250 hours total AH-64E flying experience, with at least 100 hours 'Pilot In Command'; and at least 700 hours of instructional experience of which at least 500 hours is aircraft instructional
  • Military command Night Vision Device (NVD) qualification or civilian equivalent
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English
  • Ability to pass an ADF aviation medical, ideally without limitation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance (Non-Vetted Level 1)

Desirable

  • Military Instrument Rating Assessor or civilian equivalent
  • Hold all qualifications as required by AAvnTC SOPs
  • Have previous instructional experience on synthetic devices
  • Have previous military flying instruction experience

Highly Desirable

  • Hold or have held a AUS / UK / US AH-64E V6 qualification
  • Hold or have held a military standards or instructor assessor role, or civilian equivalent

Security Requirement

Australian applicants: ability to obtain/maintain a Defence security clearance. Non-Australian applicants: a willingness to undertake Australian Citizenship and obtain/maintain Australian Defence security clearance.
