About the Role
AAT is seeking a Simulator Technical Coordinator to join the Melbourne Technical team. This is an outstanding opportunity for a Simulator Technician who is ready to step into a leadership-focused coordination role while remaining hands-on with flight simulator technology.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will coordinate the maintenance, qualification and technical performance of assigned Full Flight Simulators (FFS) and Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTD). You will work closely with Team Leaders and Technicians to ensure maintenance is effectively planned, customer requirements are met and simulators continue to operate at the highest levels of reliability and regulatory compliance. This is a highly visible role that combines technical expertise, planning, quality assurance, project coordination and leadership.
This is an exciting full-time role covering aspects of Electronics, Aircraft simulation, and modern computing. The Simulator Technician works as part of a team applying technical knowledge to operate and maintain fully serviced flight simulators for use by AAT's customers, and requires complex fault-finding skills to quickly isolate and repair faults to the flight simulators.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance activities
- Develop and manage annual maintenance schedules
- Prioritise daily technical work across multiple simulators
- Lead technical investigations and complex fault-finding activities
- Coordinate responses to critical simulator outages (AOG events)
- Support simulator upgrades, modifications and continuous improvement projects
- Prepare simulators for regulatory qualification and recurrent evaluations
- Review maintenance documentation and quality records
- Coach, mentor and develop technical team members
- Act as Technical Manager delegate when required
About You
You are an experienced simulator technician with strong technical capability and a collaborative leadership style. You'll ideally bring:
- Extensive experience maintaining modern Full Flight Simulators
- Strong knowledge of simulator hardware, software, electronics and computer systems
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Experience coordinating maintenance activities or leading technical teams
- Strong planning, organisational and communication skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
- A commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
Education/Qualifications Required
- Advanced Diploma in Electronics and Communications Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- Simulator Evaluation qualification or willingness to obtain within the first 12 months
Desirable
- Qualifications in Electronics, Avionics, Computer Engineering or related disciplines
- Project management experience
- Experience working within a regulated aviation environment
