About TracPlus
TracPlus is a New Zealand technology company supporting aerial firefighting operations around the world. Agencies and operators across 40 countries rely on our platform to track aircraft, understand operational activity and make informed decisions.
Our customers include CAL FIRE, Australia’s national aerial firefighting programme and Fire and Emergency New Zealand. With around 2,500 wildfire suppression aircraft managed on our platform and more than a billion flight records, our technology helps turn aviation data into information people can act on.
As wildfire seasons lengthen, the work we do has never mattered more.
About the Role
We’re looking for a UX / UI Designer to help make our web and mobile products simpler to use and more consistent.
Reporting to our Chief Technology Officer, you’ll work closely with Product and Engineering across the full design process: understanding customer needs, exploring user journeys, testing ideas and creating polished interfaces that translate into working products.
Our customers operate in demanding environments, often working with complex workflows and detailed information. You’ll help bring clarity to that complexity, designing experiences that support their day-to-day decisions.
This is a hands-on contract opportunity for someone who enjoys asking questions, working through uncertainty and turning ideas into something tangible.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design end-to-end experiences across our web and mobile products, from user journeys and wireframes through to prototypes and high-fidelity UI.
- Translate operational workflows and complex data into clear navigation, interactions and interfaces.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering from early discovery through to delivery, balancing customer needs, technical realities and business priorities.
- Test ideas through lightweight research and prototyping, using customer feedback and product insights to guide improvements.
- Design for the whole experience, including accessibility, loading states, errors and edge cases.
- Improve our design system, reusable components and patterns to create greater consistency across products.
- Provide clear design specifications and context, then review what gets built alongside Engineering.
- Use Figma and modern design tools to explore, communicate and iterate efficiently.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience designing digital products across UX and UI, with a portfolio showing how you approach problems and develop solutions.
- The ability to make complex workflows and information easier to understand and use.
- Confidence using Figma to create flows, prototypes and polished interface designs.
- A practical understanding of usability and accessibility.
- Experience working closely with product managers and engineers to bring designs into production.
- Clear communication, openness to feedback and a collaborative approach.
- Comfort working with evolving requirements and making thoughtful, practical decisions as you learn.
Experience That Would Be Helpful
- Designing data-rich products, dashboards, mapping interfaces or operational software.
- Working across both web and mobile experiences.
- Building or improving design systems.
- Conducting user research and usability testing.
- Using AI-enabled design tools where they help you explore or iterate.
You don’t need an aviation or firefighting background. We’re interested in how you think, collaborate and design for the people using a product.
What Makes This Opportunity Rewarding
- Meaningful work: contribute to technology supporting aerial firefighting and the communities that depend on it.
- Interesting design challenges: make complex data and operational workflows clearer and more useful.
- Visible impact: help shape the experience and consistency of products used internationally.
- Close collaboration: work directly with Product, Engineering and our CTO, with opportunities to contribute throughout the design process.
