Sharp was established in 1990 as an aviation company focused on Australia’s Southeast region. From a modest start with just one single-engine aircraft and two staff, it currently employs over 80 full-time and part-time staff throughout its bases across Australia.
During the formative years from 1990–2000, Sharp Airlines concentrated on the Airline Cadet Training School and Charter business. The intention was always to develop a commercial pilot cadetship providing more than one licence, ensuring the trainees ended up with a pathway to a future career rather than just a qualification.
The goal to provide a career pathway is a key factor in the success of the airline with Sharp Airline cadets working in all major airlines in Australia and around the world.
In 2001 Sharp successfully moved into the regular public transport (RPT) services upgrading from the Chieftan piston 10-seater aircraft to the new 19-seater Metroliners.
With ever-expanding passenger profile, parallel development occurred with freight services. Today, we offer a same-day delivery service unmatched by other freight providers. In 2012 the focus moved to tourism and development of holiday packages to key Sharp destinations.
Our travel consultants at Sharp Travel offer a range of holiday and leisure packages to the Bass Strait Islands. Our packages include airfares, accommodation and car hire, and travellers can choose between ready‐to‐go packages or a tailored package to incorporate the needs of the individual or group.
