The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) South Eastern Section is seeking an experienced Senior Base Engineer to lead our engineering team, based at our Broken Hill Base, delivering safe and reliable maintenance outcomes for our fleet of aircraft supporting essential aeromedical services across NSW and the ACT.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager, the Senior Base Engineer is responsible for the leadership and management of the engineering team at the Broken Hill Base, ensuring the highest standards of airworthiness, safety, and compliance are maintained across the fleet. You will play a key role in overseeing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, managing resources, and mentoring engineering staff, all while contributing to the RFDS mission of delivering essential healthcare to rural and remote communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the engineering team at the Broken Hill Base.
- Ensure aircraft maintenance is carried out safely, compliantly, and efficiently in accordance with CASA regulations and RFDS procedures.
- Oversee scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities, defect rectification, and AOG management.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and support staff.
- Manage rosters, resourcing, and workload planning for the base engineering team.
- Liaise with the Regional Engineering Manager and other bases to ensure consistency of practice across the network.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.
About You
- CASA Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (B1 and/or B2) with current licence.
- Significant experience maintaining turboprop aircraft, ideally Beechcraft King Air types.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience within an aircraft maintenance environment.
- Strong understanding of CASA regulations and airworthiness requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
