About the Role

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) South Eastern Section is seeking experienced Line Pilots to join our aviation team across various bases including Dubbo, Broken Hill, and Launceston, delivering life-saving aeromedical retrieval and primary care services to rural and remote communities.

About Us

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world, providing extensive primary health care and 24-hour emergency service to those who live, work, and travel throughout Australia, and cannot access a hospital or medical care due to the tyranny of distance.

The Opportunity

As a Line Pilot, you will operate RFDS aircraft on aeromedical retrieval, patient transfer, and primary care clinic flights, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of medical teams and patients across regional and remote NSW, ACT, and Tasmania. You will work as part of a close-knit crew including flight nurses and doctors, often in demanding and time-critical situations, and play a vital role in connecting isolated communities to essential healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate RFDS aircraft safely and efficiently in accordance with CASA regulations and RFDS Operations Manuals.
  • Conduct aeromedical retrievals, inter-hospital transfers, and primary care clinic flights, often to remote and unprepared airstrips.
  • Work collaboratively with medical crew to ensure safe and effective patient care during flight.
  • Participate in the base flying and on-call roster, including after-hours availability.
  • Maintain accurate flight and maintenance records in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to a positive safety culture and continuous improvement within the aviation team.

About You

  • CASA Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with instrument rating.
  • Significant multi-engine turboprop command experience, ideally on Beechcraft King Air aircraft.
  • Experience operating into unprepared or remote airstrips highly regarded.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills, particularly under pressure.
  • A genuine commitment to the RFDS mission of delivering healthcare to rural and remote Australia.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary package plus superannuation.
  • Not-for-profit salary packaging benefits.
  • Access to Employee Assistance Program.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of people in rural and remote Australia.

How to Apply

If you are ready to take the next step in your aviation career and contribute to an organisation that makes a real difference, we would love to hear from you. Apply now via the RFDS careers page.
