Lead the Team That Keeps Our Mission Flying

Behind every MAF flight is a team of skilled engineers ensuring aircraft are safe, serviceable and ready to go where roads cannot. Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is looking for an experienced Maintenance Operations Supervisor (MOS) to provide technical leadership, oversee aircraft maintenance activities, and lead the engineering team at MAF's heavy maintenance base in Mareeba, Far North Queensland.

This is more than a maintenance role — it's an opportunity to combine your aviation engineering expertise with leadership, mentoring and service, helping build a capable team while ensuring the aircraft that support MAF's mission remain safe, serviceable and ready to fly.

Why MAF?

For more than 80 years, Mission Aviation Fellowship has used aviation to bring help, hope and healing to some of the world's most isolated communities. MAF aircraft transport medical teams, patients, humanitarian workers, church partners, relief supplies and development organisations to places where aviation is often not a luxury, but a lifeline.

What You'll Be Doing

Working closely with the Head of Maintenance, you will:

  • Plan, supervise, perform and certify aircraft maintenance
  • Lead and support local engineering teams
  • Ensure maintenance is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with aviation regulations and MAF procedures
  • Coordinate people, parts, tooling and maintenance resources
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Mentor and develop engineers, helping build strong and sustainable local teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance practices, efficiency and training

What You'll Bring

  • A current Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence with applicable ratings
  • At least five years' aircraft maintenance experience
  • Experience leading or supervising engineering teams
  • Strong technical, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • A commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
  • The ability to build positive and effective teams

Experience in mission aviation, cross-cultural environments, or mentoring and developing engineers would be highly valued. Applicants must have or be willing to acquire the legal right to work in Australia; acceptance of and adherence to MAF's purpose, vision and values is an essential condition of employment, and a criminal history check will be completed as part of the process.

To ensure a comprehensive handover, the successful candidate is expected to start in April 2027.
