About the Role

Bankstown AeroSpray is seeking a skilled and dedicated Aircraft Maintenance Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. Based at our Bankstown NSW 2200 facility, this role is central to maintaining the safety, reliability and airworthiness of aircraft, with prior experience in painting and refinishing, as you will be responsible for aircraft surface preparation and painting, performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities, diagnostics and repairs on aircraft systems and components. This is a hands-on position that requires technical expertise, attention to detail and a commitment to the highest standards of aerospace safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the identification, treatment and prevention of corrosion on aircraft structures and components using approved processes, materials and maintenance procedures.
  • Carry out aircraft surface preparation and refinishing activities, including cleaning, degreasing, sanding, stripping and masking of metal and composite aircraft surfaces.
  • Apply approved primers, polyurethane topcoats and protective coatings to aircraft surfaces and components using HVLP spray equipment in accordance with approved processes and workplace procedures.
  • Repair and replace aircraft components, parts and systems, ensuring all work meets engineering specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct functional tests and quality checks on repaired or maintained systems to verify airworthiness and operational safety.
  • Document all maintenance activities, defects, repairs and test results in maintenance logs and technical records.
  • Comply with all relevant aerospace regulations, airworthiness directives and maintenance procedures established by regulatory authorities.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians, engineers and operational staff to ensure efficient aircraft turnaround and fleet availability.
  • Perform visual inspections for structural damage, corrosion, wear and other defects that may affect aircraft safety or performance.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work areas to the highest standards of cleanliness, organisation and safety.

Essential Requirements

  • A recognised aircraft maintenance engineering qualification or certification (such as CASA certification or equivalent recognised aerospace maintenance credential).
  • Proven experience in aircraft maintenance, repair or inspection, preferably in a commercial or general aviation environment.
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, avionics and propulsion systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, maintenance documentation, engineering drawings and aircraft maintenance procedures.
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
  • A meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship and safety standards.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment commonly used in aircraft maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced maintenance environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to document work clearly and accurately.
  • A valid driver's licence and willingness to work flexible hours including early starts, evenings or weekends as required.
  • Familiarity with aviation safety protocols and a demonstrated commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aerospace safety.
