Quality & Aviation Safety Lead
Location: Richmond
Airbus is looking for a Quality and Aviation Safety Lead to serve as the vital link between the Airbus Quality Management System (QMS) and our Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations. Operating within our Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASR) Part 145 Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO), you will ensure a no-compromise commitment to compliance, airworthiness, and safety.
While this is an individual contributor role without direct reports, it offers significant leadership scope. You will act as the formal deputy to the Manager Maintenance and Logistics Quality, ensuring seamless quality oversight during their absence, and serving as a trusted mentor and Subject Matter Expert (SME) across the business.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will drive continuous improvement and champion a generative safety culture. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Manage key regulatory documents (Quality Plans, Maintenance/Production Expositions). Support the Manager in executing Airbus Australia Pacific (AAP) strategy and achieving functional Management Objectives (MBOs).
Support, schedule, and conduct internal and supplier audits, manage external regulatory audits, and ensure timely responses to findings.
Lead root-cause analysis, investigate non-conformances, errors, incidents, and customer complaints, tracking corrective/preventative actions (CAPA) to completion.
Act as an SME in Aviation Safety Management Systems (ASMS). Monitor, trend, and report risks, while conducting promotional activities and training to foster an elite quality culture.
Act as a critical interface with internal teams, external partners, and airworthiness regulators.
Additional Responsibilities:
Support broader business improvement projects.
Cross-functionally support quality initiatives in Engineering, Supply Chain, and Programs.
About You
To be successful in this highly visible role, you will bring a proactive approach to risk management and a passion for aviation safety.
Your Experience & Qualifications:
Strong background in aviation quality assurance within a DASR Part 145 or equivalent civil/defence MRO environment.
Deep knowledge of Aviation Safety Management Systems (ASMS) regulations and pillars.
Proven experience in risk management, change management, and aviation safety investigation methodologies.
Exceptional communication skills with a track record of mentoring personnel and influencing positive safety behaviours.
A collaborative mindset, comfortable interacting with regulatory authorities and cross-functional teams.
