Traffic Officer

Be the Face of Air Niugini in Goroka—Make Every Journey Count. Join the Air Niugini Airport Operations Team in Goroka as a Traffic Officer and play a key role in creating a safe, smooth and memorable journey for our customers—from check-in to boarding and through to departure.

The Traffic Officer occupies a frontline position that interacts daily with Air Niugini Customers. He/she is responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction through the delivery of quality service at the Check-in and at the Ramp; ensuring airport activities are compliant to regulatory and company requirements.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Carry out pre-flight planning and check-in duties, e.g., checking-in passengers and baggage within allocated times in accordance with Air Niugini requirements.
  • Receive Dangerous Goods and check they meet the IATA DG and Air Niugini Security requirements
  • Liaise and obtain fuel uplift from flight captains to determine traffic payload.
  • Complete LIR, Trim Charts and all relevant weight and balance documents.
  • Carry-out boarding calls, delay calls and any communication essential to inform passengers, staff and the general public of flight information.
  • Dispatch flights on time and ensure all essential documents are on board.
  • Assist in flight disruptions, denied boarding and mishandled baggage and cargo.
  • Promptly refer customer concerns, complaints and suggestions to the Manager or Supervisor/Senior Traffic Officer to the customer’s satisfaction.
  • Ensure that port activities are compliant with relevant CARS and Air Niugini Safety Policies.
  • Actively promote high quality standards and a safety culture within the port.
  • Identify and report potential risks.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment is maintained at all times.
  • Cooperate with other areas and continuously improve service standards with the prime aim to “get it right first time and every time for the customer” at minimum cost.
  • Carry out post flight requirements (PFS, LDM, MVT, etc.) before close of business on the day.
  • Ensure all data required for post flight reports, weekly and monthly reports are accurate. Secure and available to the Manager.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with Air Niugini and Regulatory procedures.
  • Carry out all duties as required by the management from time to time.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 with good marks in English and Mathematics
  • Diploma/Certificate in Tourism & Hospitality/Information Technology/Business Management are also encouraged to apply.
  • Work experience in the airline or the hotel industry is preferred but not essential.
  • Able to show motivation, confidence, and drive and be customer service oriented.
  • Be able to reflect their enjoyment of the job in the execution of their duties.
  • Have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills so as to meet the needs of customer as well as those of the airline.
  • Loyal, diligent and determined personal and must be prepared to undergo personal development training programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to meet the needs of Executive Club Members.
  • Must be disciplined in their attitude and approach to work, compliant with rules and regulations and be of mature personality

Skills & Experience

Applicants must be:

  • A team player relevant customer Service experience
  • Willing to work on a shift rotation basis, extended time (if required) and willing to work weekends including public holidays
  • Previous Airline experience or in Hospitality Industry is desirable
  • Possess good computing skills
  • Applicants must live within Goroka Town or around Goroka Airport area.
