POLAR AVIATION (1981 - 2024) Polar Aviation began in 1981 when Clark Butson recognised a clear need in the Pilbara. Remote communities were being left behind - cut off by distance and lacking reliable transport options. Clark believed they deserved better: dependable access to essential services, safe travel, and the same opportunities as those in major cities. From its earliest flights, Polar was more than just a charter service. It became a vital connection - moving students, supporting mining operations, delivering freight, and even responding to emergencies. Operating its own turbine aircraft, building hangars in key locations, and investing in in-house training and navigation systems, Polar built a reputation for doing things properly and showing up where others wouldn’t. Peace Aviation provides an excellent aviation service throughout Central Queensland. Our motto is service first, safety always. ​Peace Aviation is primarily a flying school offering training in General Aviation for the Recreational, Private and Commercial Pilot’s Licences. We have multiple flight instructors that can conduct a wide variety of advanced training options such as Multi-Engine training, Instrument Ratings and Flight Reviews. ​We also offer flight training through RAAus in ultralight aircraft for those looking for a cheaper alternative for flying privately. ​The Peace Aviation Flying School has experienced instructors, the highest safety standards, flexible training options, and a selection of aircraft to choose from. ​Peace Aviation also offers Air Charter in a variety of aircraft flying throughout Central Queensland. Air charter can be faster, more convenient and less expensive than scheduled air travel, particularly when a group of passengers are travelling to remote places or when multiple stops are required.

Smartair is no fly-by-night business. Owned and operated by the same family since its inception 52 years ago. Smartair is a 3rd generation family company, a founding member of the UMCT and active supporter of the Uiver restoration project with a solid history of stable management and quality service provision. Founder Pieter Mol was a highly credentialed instructor with the Royal Dutch Air Force when he and wife Clara decided to fly from Holland to Australia with their young family in 1966. A local Albury business needed an instructor and Pieter Snr needed a job. The rest is history. In 1968, Pieter and Clara seized the initiative and took their air centre to the skies. Starting with one small aircraft, Pieter brokered several deals to provide charter flights catering for local business travellers. The business continued to grow steadily, and Air Centre built its premises in 1970 and purchased its first aircraft, a Piper Warrior in 1972. The Albury based maintenance facility commenced when Pieter Jnr joined the business in the early 1980s as a qualified pilot, instructor and maintenance engineer. Over the next decade, three more sons, Erik, Ivo and Taco joined the business after their tertiary studies. A major client created the need to fly to and from Bathurst in the early 1990s, which ultimately lead to the establishment of a hangar, maintenance facilities and flying school there. This section of the business was retired in late 2018. Air Centre took a quantum leap in 2005 with the arrival of its turboprop King Air and also gaining operational and maintenance approval for turbines. The King Air is an executive aircraft with vast range and capacity. Smartair, as it is now known, has a fleet of 5 aircraft. This includes training and charter specific aircraft. The Mol family has always moved with the times and the evolution of the Air Centre to Smartair is testament to that fact.
